"Just Grandma and Me" for iPhone

Oceanhouse Media, Inc. today announced the launch of three new Little Critter digital books for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The children’s favorites Just Grandma and Me, All By Myself and I Just Forgot are now available in the App Store for only $1.99 each. The Little Critter digital books are presented in a format that is easy for young children to read. The apps contain the same playful artwork that has been a hallmark of, award-winning illustrator and author, Mercer Mayer. These “universal” apps can be used interchangeably with the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch for no additional charge and include special high-resolution graphics for devices with a Retina display.

In the humorous tale Just Grandma and Me, Little Critter and his grandmother spend the day at the beach. Little Critter tries his best to be a good helper. When his grandmother’s hot dog falls in the sand, he washes it off in the ocean. He promises to blow up the inflatable seahorse, but needs a little help in the end. The joys and mishaps of a special summer day with Grandma are all brightened by Little Critter’s sunny disposition.

As the story unfolds in All By Myself, Little Critter shows us all the things he can do on his own from tying his shoes (almost) to pouring his own juice (and only spilling a little). The endearing illustrations point out the fact that Little Critter doesn’t do everything perfectly, but he makes an effort to do the best he can!

I Just Forgot begins as the lovable Little Critter struggles to remember what he is supposed to do each day. On rainy days he remembers his raincoat but forgets his boots. On school days he gets to school on time but forgets his lunchbox. Poor Little Critter! He tries hard but hasn’t quite mastered the art of how to get through the day. Every young reader will understand Little Critter’s confusion and laugh with him from start to finish.

“I wrote the first in the series of Little Critter books over 30 years ago to address the major issues of growing up through humorous storytelling,” said Mercer Mayer, author and illustrator of the Little Critter series, “I’m very excited to partner with Oceanhouse Media and see my series evolve to the iPhone and iPad.”

Each digital book combines Mercer Mayer’s award-winning illustrations from the original book with innovative features that promote reading in young children, including highlighted picture / word associations, professional narration and custom background audio. Each digital book also includes a special mini-game where the reader is encouraged to find recurring creatures as they progress through the story (a mouse, a grasshopper, a spider, etc).

Oceanhouse Media, creators of the award-winning Dr. Seuss, Berenstain Bears, and Hay House apps, have recently seen seven of their digital books reach the #1 rank for paid books in the App Store.

Aim, Pull and Shoot with Floop

Posted by jwrite under iPhone Accessories, iPhone Apps, iPhone News, iPhones on Friday Nov 26, 2010

floop3New

Physics games are getting popular nowadays and a new game from Blacksmith Games join in the bandwagon of addictive fun. In the game Floop, the game is pretty easy since it involves around shooting an array of snacks into hungry animals mouths. Thanks to the cute characters and a compelling concept the game proves to be addictive and challenging to new and veteran players.

Floop lets players choose the option to shoot variety of foods like a nut, cheese, banana unto the mouth of a squirrel, mouse or a gorilla. The game is similar to that found in many pull and aim games where you try to shoot other players but this time you feed animals instead of killing the enemy.

The graphics is visually cartoonish and simple making it fun to play. Floop features four themed settings that includes beaches, supermarkets, office and even a football field. These in return determines the backdrop of ocean landscapes for the beach scenes and as well it layouts the obstacles like piles of bowling pins for a sports themed.

As the game progress, more elements are introduced into action. Certain tools are helpful like a variety of catapult devices are used to propel the nut. Higher levels offer challenging obstacles like boxes or ice cubs are introduced making your shooting a bit more challenging.

Floop is a great shoot and aim pointer but unfortunately the horrible controls and simple gameplay may be the only aspect that the game doesn’t make it to the top of the list.

Outrun a Blackhole in Mazonaut

Posted by jwrite under iPhone Apps, iPhone News, iPhones on Thursday Nov 25, 2010

mazonaut

From the name itself Mazonaut, the game itself is all about mazes. Mazonaut is fun, fast-paced game for the iPhone and iPad.

The object of the game is simple; you have to guide the Mazonaut through a never ending neon maze that’s straight fresh from TRON. The maze really does not end. The game generates random maps when the game starts. The action can go on until the player dies.  Frustrating as it can be the game may be a little bit more confusing than you think.

The game is more like of Doodle Jump where the game never stops. The object of the game is simply to beat your personal best. The action is controlled with the use of the accelerometer making the maze navigation feel a little tedious. You might recognize the game more of like a Bomberman from Bomberman Touch. There are the occasional power-ups popping and yes, they are in the form of bombs.

While the gameplay is simple and easy to pick up the power ups however keeps things interesting. The bombs are used to destroy huge chunks of mazes to help the player charge in without him having to worry about the obstacles. Mazonaut is a very young game that needs a few kinks that still needs to be worked out. The only downside of the game is that you can’t worked your way backwards. But overall the game is as polished with a few bugs. The sound design is fantastic with a futuristic feel and at only $0.99 this feels like a good deal.

Rule the Kitchen with RecipePad

Photo-Nov-08-11-20-17-PM-225x300

The iPad’s dominance in the industry has made it more than just a simple tablet PC but rather a companion in our daily lives. With the increasing number of apps there is always be an app just for everything. Among these apps is dedicated to the culinary arts. The latest app known as the RecipePad is suitable for creating and saving recipes.

For those of you who got a Mac and use an app called as the MacGourment or Yummy Soup, you can get the best from both worlds. These files can easily be moved from your desktop to the iPad through the use of iTunes.  In many ways it is a pain to have physically connected the device to a computer just to get the files transferred.

The interface of the RecipePad is easy to use. You can easily follow the instructions and viewing the ingredients of a recipe is a breeze. If you want to create new simple recipes then the app is handy in storing a well laid out section for the ingredients, cook time and procedures. You can also tag a photo in the cook time and rate how difficult the meal is to prepare. The recipes pull up two number pads that includes a traditional 10-digit keypad as well as another nine digits all devoted to fractions. There’s also another interface for documenting the cooking procedure couple with a timer.

The RecipePad in some ways is a great app for creating recipes from scratch. The only downside is that it feels constrained since you must type every ingredient rather than a drag down list from the web.

We all have dreamed to have great shots using our phone. But sadly not all of us are photographers at heart. With Pro HDR, you can be a great photographer that rivals the real thing. Pro HDR is among the best and most popular when it comes to HDR photography.

So what does HDR stands for? HDR means “High Dynamic Range”. It simply deals with the luminance of the lprohdr-photo-app-200x300ighting of the photograph most especially some darker parts of the picture. Most photographs are in poor conditions due to lighting conditions in which the time and place it was taken. A skilled professional photographer might able to reduce the glare and add a little detail out of the shadows not highly comparable to the luminance recognized by the naked human eye. HDR photographs closely recreate the shots in which it is almost the real deal.

The way in which Pro HDR accomplish this type of photography  is by the combination of three exposure and each if will capture a different level of detail and algorithm designed to retain the greatest detail in photograph. This app is so powerful that in order for you to believe you have to try it for yourself. Pro HDR will make short work out of your photos. It is jammed packed with features which allow users to choose between three different modes. Choose the mode you want and Pro HDR will take care of the rest.  Much has been made of the new built in HDR technology that runs on the iPhone 4’s IOS version 4.1.

Fun Guessing Game with Knowsy

Posted by jwrite under iPad, iPad Accessories, iPad Apps, iPad News on Friday Nov 19, 2010

knowsy-iPad-300x225

There are plenty of board games have made it through the iPad. Some few classics like Scrabble and Monopoly have converted their popular game play through iPad’s wide screen. Here comes Knowsy, a guessing game for the competitor’s preferences. The game starts out as the VIP in which he chooses a topic among the options such as movie genres, elementary subjects, drama, music, toys and many other topics to choose from. Within those categories more specific subjects are unlock, the job of the VIP must rank them according to preference from one through five. The choices are written in playful font in a series of tiles which are slid around the screen until the choice is complete.

The other player’s job is presented on those five choices instead of ranking them they scatter them around the screen. Their objective is simple, to guess the order the VIP ranked them.  The more correct answers they give the higher the scores will be. The process repeats itself until all six players are able to compete at once.

You may not be familiar with the game but thanks to the tutorial it provides it really gives new gamers new insights on how to play the game without them being left alone with the games mechanics.

Knowsy is a solid game that is fun for the whole family and just as better when played in a group. It can be enjoyed just about everyone as long as they have the passion and interest when it comes to team based fun.
