Apple halts 99-cent TV rentals on iTunes

Posted by admin under Apple News, iPhone Apps on Monday Aug 29, 2011

On Friday, Apple removed the option to rent episodes of television shows from iTunes. Previously, rentals had cost iTunes members 99 cents an episode, but an episode could be purchased for $1.99 for standard definition or $2.99 for high definition. The purchase options remain in the store as of Friday. Rentals were first offered to iTunes members when the Apple TV made its first public appearance in September of last year. When an iTunes member made a rental purchase, they had the option of downloading and saving the episode for up to 30 days, but had to finish the episode within 48 hours of starting the program. This was double the amount of time allowed to watch movie rentals which currently stands at 24 hours from starting the film.

RBC raises Nokia outlook for Q3: ‘Not as dire as feared’

Posted by admin under Mobile News on Monday Aug 29, 2011

Nokia’s situation may not be quite as “dire” as initially anticipated according to RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue. Despite Nokia’s rough second-quarter earnings, which were called “clearly disappointing” by Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, Sue sees Nokia in a better position than most. In a note to investors on Friday, the analyst reiterated his Outperform rating on Nokia stock and set a price target of $9. Sue increased his third-quarter unit shipment estimate to 100 million devices from his earlier estimate of 89 million, noting that sales of Nokia’s Symbian devices will likely not drop off as rapidly as had been expected.  Read More
