Cat plays Fruit Ninja on iPad pretty well [Video]

Posted by admin under iPad on Saturday Dec 31, 2011

You’ve cat to be kitten me right meow! Heh.

Take a look at the epic gaming going on in the following video and it’s being accomplished by a cat! This seemingly cute and cuddly feline is playing Fruit Ninja HD on an iPad 2 and it’s playing pretty damn well for a, you know, cat. I used to be pretty bad a Fruit Ninja — much worse than this cat — but I’ve been brushing up my skills lately and I think I might be able to take it on in a duel.

I don’t know what it is about cats and mobile devices, but whenever the Internet gets ahold of any footage involving the two, our hearts just melt into a heap of goo. My only hope is that the pet owner has a reliable screen protector on the iPad because it looks like this cat is doing some serious damage to that display glass.:

Bonus: here’s a fun game to play. The cat is in Arcade Mode on Fruit Ninja and at the end, it scores 128. Challenge yourself to get on Fruit Ninja, choose Arcade, and beat that score. Just another way to kill some time. You’re welcome.

Android and iOS games from Gameloft on sale for $0.99 a pop

Posted by admin under iPad on Friday Dec 30, 2011

Gameloft, a big-name developer for Android and iOS, are putting a big portion of their games on sale for the new year. For the iPhone and iPad, they’re offering 21 titles, including Tom Clancy’s Rainbox Six: Shadow Vanguard, The Settlers (a personal favourite), Splinter Cell: Conviction, and lots of others. The Android Market sale is just kicking off today, and includes many of the same titles. Their latest premium Android game, Modern Combat 3, will be $0.99 for today only starting at 10 AM PST, so better hurry if you’re looking for a Call of Duty knock-off to play on the go. I got a chance to play it prior to launch, and it’s actually a ton of fun, especially on a tablet. It’s got full multiplayer capabilities, perks, unlocks, achievements – just about everything you’d expect from a big-boy first-person shooter.

Seeing as this is a New Years/Holidays promo, I’d hazard a guess that these sales will be wrapping up on January 1, which is this Sunday.  You can see all of Gameloft’s iOS titles over here, and everything on Android here.

Argentina bans iPhone, BlackBerry imports to support local production

Posted by admin under iPad on Thursday Dec 29, 2011

In an attempt to rectify issues with Argentina’s economy, the South American country placed a temporary ban on imports of foreign-made electronics. Two of the most well-known of those electronics are the iPhone and BlackBerry devices. Apple and RIM collectively account for 60 percent of Argentina’s smartphone market, so the ban is going to have a substantial impact on its mobile industry.

What about Android and Windows Phone? Neither of the operating systems nor the hardware manufacturers were affected because they — Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Microsoft, etc. — have manufacturing facilities within Argentina. Android and Windows Phone will very quickly see a boost in sales, while iPhone and BlackBerry sales will drop to zero, unless of course Apple and RIM open up local plants or partner with other manufacturers. Don’t hold your breath for either.

The truth is, the iPhone and BlackBerry markets have been struggling in Argentina for a while. A law was already in place that added a 20.48 percent tax on electronic imports on top of the standard 21 percent sales tax. Yikes.

The government of Argentina says they will lift the ban on iPhones and BlackBerrys when the economy shows significant signs of stabilization, but there’s no telling just when that will happen.

Get Siri on your non-iPhone 4S with this method

Posted by admin under iPad on Wednesday Dec 28, 2011

Hacker ‘chpwn’ introduced Spire a few days ago, his own unique hack to get Siri on older, jailbroken iPhones and unlike previous Siri ports, this one is completely legal and free of any copyrighted binaries. Unfortunately, it’s not very useful to most consumers, since it requires a bit of technical work. Here’s the process.

Spire is available in Cydia, so yes your iPhone has to be jailbroken to get access. During installation, Spire downloads Siri directly from Apple. Chpwn points out that the download consumes around 100 MB of data, so you’re better off connecting to WiFi before beginning.

Here’s where it gets a bit more difficult. After that, Apple’s lock on Siri means you’ll have to authorize it somehow before you can use it. Spire prompts you to enter in your own proxy address. How you’ll obtain one is the main struggle — he actually suggests buying an iPhone 4S (which would more than likely defeat the purpose of this hack) or consult a friend who owns an iPhone 4S.

For those of you with a good amount of experience and the resources in place, congratulations, Siri is all yours to use with or without Apple’s approval. There’s still no plausible solution for regular consumers who just want Siri on their older devices, so until then, we’ll just have to settle for Chpwn’s workaround.

What to do with your new iPhone

Posted by admin under iPad on Tuesday Dec 27, 2011

We know that many of you were asking for and may have received an iPhone for the holidays and even though it’s quite an intuitive experience, we thought we could provide a simple guide for setting up and getting the most out of your new Apple smartphone. This should be applicable to all iPhones but we’re using the iPhone 4S as our barometer, so your mileage may vary slightly.

Setting up

One of the greatest things about iOS 5 is that you don’t have to plug your iDevice into a computer to set it up any more. Now, you can unbox your iPhone, turn it on and you’ll be greeted with a way to set up and activate your phone wirelessly. The process is pretty simple too, as you first need to pump in your Apple ID and password – if you don’t have one yet, you can sign up for one directly on the device. This will be your ID throughout the entire Apple ecosystem and it will also be one that is tied to your purchases, so make sure you put in or sign up for the proper one.

You’ll also have the option to sign up for Find My iPhone at the setup screen and I’d advise you to do this because it’s free and it’s a good way to track your device if it’s lost or stolen. It’s not a guarantee that you’ll get it back but it’s better than nothing. You’ll also get the chance to sign up for iCloud and you really should because it’s an easy way to keep your content synced across multiple Apple devices. The iCloud service isn’t quite perfect yet but it’s pretty good so far and it will only get better in the future.

You’ll also have to activate your ATT, Sprint or Verizon 3G and this should just take less than a minute. I’ve experienced some errors connecting to Verizon’s 3G on an iPhone 4 but hitting the

Christmas is fast approaching according to my official “How long until Christmas” app and what better way to eat up your time than by visiting Santa’s Village? There probably is no better way as every kid and kid-at-heart would absolutely love to make a visit to the North Pole to see all of the action that’s going on right now in preparation for Christmas. Thankfully, Making Fun has created an app that does just that.

Santa’s Village is a time-management building freemium game similar to FarmVille in that you oversee Santa’s Village as you build houses, create toy factories, and even teach reindeer how to fly. The game also includes some mini-games such as taking control of Santa’s Elves for a good-old fashioned snowball fight with the Grumpkins.

If you’re looking for something to sit down with your kids to play over the holiday, then I’m sure they’ll absolutely love Santa’s Village. I mean, what kid wouldn’t want to help Santa make Christmas better?

Capcom releases the Blue Bomber onto the iOS scene with Mega Man X

Posted by admin under iPad on Sunday Dec 25, 2011

If you’ve been keeping tabs on Capcom’s mobile offerings, you’ll know they haven’t released many Mega Man titles. The only Mega Man game that has made it to the App Store was Mega Man II, and it was a ho-hum offering at best. Now, Capcom has released another Mega Man title onto the iOS platform, and this time, it’s arguably one of the greatest Mega Man titles for the 16-bit era, Mega Man X.

Mega Man X for iPhone stars X, who happens to be the final creation of Dr. Light, as he fights a number of reploid robots to stop Sigma from destroying the human race. The game features graphics that have been optimized for the Retina Display, includes difficulty options, online rankings, and more. You’ll also be able to play the game in its regular format or full screen mode and you’ll also be able to activate a number of iOS-only cheats such as auto-fire, auto-charge, and auto-ladder latch-on, which could be very useful for those of you who never learned how to climb a ladder before. Capcom has also included 80 challenges that can be achieved during the game’s Story Mode.

Mega Man X is currently available for $4.99 on the App Store and should definitely be checked out if you’re a fan of the Mega Man series. Let’s just hope Capcom decides to deliver more Mega Man goodness onto mobile platforms. *cough* Mega Man 9 *cough*

Nektony Disk Expert – An Efficient Disk Space Manager for Mac

Posted by admin under Apple News on Saturday Dec 24, 2011

Odessa, Ukraine, December 24, 2011 –(PR.com)– Disk Expert is a powerful disk space analysis and management tool that helps you organize your hard drive content and free up disk space. Disk Expert visually displays the file system usage and allows you to work up the content of the drive and free up valuable disk space.

The primary advantage of Disk Expert is that it provides detailed and accurate visual information about the content of your disk space. It enables you to analyze and manage the disk’s content usage and volume, by moving items from the disk to the special list from which they can be transferred to another drive or even deleted.

A common issue for Mac users is the need to manage bulky multimedia content, such as HD video, high-quality audio and huge photo collections. This content requires a large amount of hard drive space and eventually may cause disk space to be unavailable. In addition, many users were faced with a lack of hard drive space when installing new software, such as the recent Mac OS X Lion update.

Often, the issue tends to grow and leads to a dilemma: should you buy a new hard drive or organize your disk content on the existing one? This dilemma is exactly what Nektony Disk Expert provides a solution to.

The integration of Disk Expert Mac OS X into the system tools is the additional value of this software. Users can always preview a file using QuickLook and view details regarding the system’s information of the file with one click. The incredible speed of the scanning process means that the entire disk analysis will take just a couple of minutes.

Disk Expert supports HDD drives, CD and DVD discs, removable USB drives, mounted and even SMB disk images. It is an efficient solution that helps find the files and folders that take up disk space and clear them.

Nektony Disk Expert is the perfect choice for owners of large media collections, and a tool which will allow you to constantly keep your computer ready to
