fter months of speculation, the iPhone 4S has finally been officially, truly, actually revealed. It’s not a groundbreaking redesign packed with new features, it’s a more powerful but same-looking iPhone 4. And in many ways, it’s a case of Apple catching up to Android, not the other way around.
Of the new features that the iPhone 4S sports, most of them are already available on comparable Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S II. Apple has made a big deal out of some of these improvements, and among iPhone owners, many of them are pretty cool. The A5 dual-core processor chip, for example, speeds up the iPhone’s capabilities for video and gaming, bringing them more in line with the iPad 2. Read More

30 Days With the iPad: Day 26
Throughout the course of the 30 Days With the iPad project, I have purchased or recommended a variety of peripherals and apps to help the Apple tablet fulfill its duties as a PC replacement. Let’s take a look back, and figure out what the overall price tag might look.
First, we have the iPad itself. As I covered on Day 2, when you consider the different storage capacities, Wi-Fi only vs. 3G, and ATT vs. Verizon there are actually quite a few options for a device that really only comes in one flavor. The iPad requires an investment between $500 and $830 depending on what you choose.
It takes apps to make the iPad productive, and many of those apps are not free.I am using my iPhone 4 as a Wi-Fi hotspot if I need connectivity on the go. I already had the iPhone 4 anyway, so that cost doesn’t count. Besides, the additional $20 a month for the privilege of sharing the 3G connection is an expense I would already have and use for connecting my notebook when there is no Wi-Fi connection as well.
For now, I am using a 64GB Wi-Fi only iPad, so my price tag is $700.
Cumulative Price Tag: $700
Many apps are provided for free, but require an investment in the backend service in order for it to have any purpose. For example, the Netflix app is useless without a Netflix subscription, and the Fuze Meeting app won’t do you much good without some sort of Fuze Meeting account. Box.net and Remember the Milk (RTM) are free apps, and have free services, but you might spend additional money for more advanced plans.

While everyone is clueless as to what the iPhone 4G would look like, some folks have gone to the extreme and came up with a potential render of the iPhone 4G in white casing.
From the looks of it, a white-rendered iPhone 4G does indeed look good, something which may not be bad if it could be applied to other iPhone 3G or 3GS models. Not a bad idea ey?

The iPad 3G version is currently being offered by AT&T and for sure a lot of people are scampering to get their hands on them. The only thing is that there seems to be an issue, a 3G Video restriction which includes the restriction of some apps which stream video.
The YouTube app, for example, scales videos to a lower resolution over a cellular data connection and the ABC player will not work unless you are connected to a WiFi network. So far these are the reported apps incurring problems although Netflix app has yet to be seen.

Starting September 25, MMS capability shall be present for the iPhone 3G and 3GS as confirmed by AT&T. Though it may seem late since a lot of people have been awaiting such an announcement, the timing (3 days after school opens!) couldn’t have been better to shelve all the curious iPhone owners awaiting the official announcement.
There were a lot of factors considered such as the potential MMS traffic as well as making sure that all the multimedia capabilities of the iPhone 3G and 3GS are optimized. But like most services, stability and issues concerning this new MMS service is still up for scrutiny as there is still always room for potential problems, something that should not be alarming and normal for all handsets and telecommunication services.

After much controversy and waiting, Apple’s iPhone will finally be available in China starting October. This developed after Apple and China Unicorn reached an accord regarding the authorized distribution of the popular iPhone 3G in the mainland.
News about the iPhone venturing into China broke out the past months and after many considered the effort futile, everything has been finally settled. With the deal, Apple now enters one of the biggest mobile markets known today.
Chinese users will get the iPhone 3G with 8GB for $365 with a 2-year contract and a monthly rate of $27 (minimum). The Wi-Fi function will be disabled initially but may be added in the future, along with China’s homegrown WAPI (WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure) standard.
The iPhone 3GS is expected to follow suit as soon as the first batch of iPhones are officially distributed to Chinese natives. It will be interesting to see how Dell will react to Apple’s move with its China-only smartphone “mini 3i”, which is neither priced nor dated yet.
