Yelp app update zings Rick Perry

Posted by admin under iPad Apps, iPhone Apps on Friday Nov 11, 2011

Well, at least we know the Yelp team follows politics, as the latest iPhone app update includes a little joke at the expense of Rick Perry, who is vying to be the Republican presidential nominee and had a cringe-worthy moment during last night’s debate.

You can use Siri for home automation

Posted by admin under Apple News on Saturday Nov 5, 2011

I thought Siri on the iPhone 4S was an interesting first step in using our voice for controlling and interacting with computers but I felt frustrated whenever you hit its predefined limits. Thank goodness for the hackers and developers out there, as one enterprising fellow has created a way for Siri to control your home appliances. Read More

iPhone 4S versus BlackBerry

Posted by admin under iPhones on Thursday Oct 27, 2011

BlackBerry users might well be left wondering whether their loyalty has been worth it. An international outage that lasted for three days leaving users unable to send or receive messages or calls has left many wondering whether they should jump ship. The timing couldn’t be worse for BlackBerry regarding their recent troubles, coinciding as they did with the launch of the iPhone 4S contracts.

Purported images from version 2.0 of RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook OS have been published by a Chinese website. If authentic, they reaffirm several details about the upcoming OS — most notably, perhaps, is the platform’s lack of support for current versions of RIM’s BES enterprise email solution. BGR exclusively reported in early August that RIM has to rewrite its BES code in order to support the PlayBook’s QNX-based OS. As can be seen in the screenshot above, that rewrite is ongoing and as such, it looks like the next major tablet OS build will not support BES email despite finally adding native support for Exchange, IMAP and POP. Beyond that, another screenshot clearly shows an Android icon in the app menu, no doubt the Android Player RIM tablet fans have been clamoring for. Additional screenshots, including the one that shows RIM’s Android app player icon, follow below.

The discount creates several compelling deals. For example, Verizon customers can pick up the Samsung DROID Charge 4G LTE phone for $49.99 with a new contract, or the HTC ThunderBolt 4G device for just $19. LetsTalk.com also confirmed with BGR that it expects to offer Verizon’s new BlackBerry Bold 9930 on August 31st and while final pricing for that phone is still unknown, it will be eligible for the $50 coupon for that day until the deal expires. Customers can take advantage of the LetsTalk.com deal by entering coupon code “bbaf0cf6?(updated) during check-out, and the offer is valid through August 31st.

Sprint’s BlackBerry Bold 9930 just $199.99 online

Posted by admin under iPad on Monday Aug 22, 2011

Sprint has never been known to follow convention. While other carriers are milking heavy data users for as much as possible, for example, Sprint is standing strong and maintaining its unlimited data plans for as long as possible. Another example: Sprint announced the BlackBerry Bold 9930 last week, stating that it would charge customers $249.99 on contract for the device. The nation’s No. 3 carrier made the device available on Sunday as promised, but the phone is actually priced lower online than Sprint announced; just $199.99 will score you RIM’s latest flagship smartphone from Sprint’s online shop. Oddly, the same $200 can also land you an old Bold 9650 if you have an aversion to touchscreens and gorgeous hardware. Sprint’s Torch 9850 launched at the promised $149.99, but we can’t imagine opting for it over the Bold 9930 for just $50 more. Interested parties may want to hit the read link quickly in case Sprint has a change of heart.

Thanks, CJ

Can Blackberry’s Touchscreen Handset take on the iPhone?

Posted by admin under iPhones on Tuesday Aug 9, 2011

The iPhone 4 is widely considered to be one of the best touchscreen smartphones currently available, and has achieved millions of sales to prove it. However, not every smartphone user is an iPhone convert.
Blackberry has a number of devoted users who prefer the convenience of their devices’ QWERTY keyboard, easy to use and reliable push email and Blackberry Messenger.

With their latest handset, the Bold 9900, by teaming their signature QWERTY keyboard with a responsive touchscreen, Blackberry hopes to reignite their slightly flagging position in the smartphone market by targeting the iPhone’s legion of fans.

• Power
The Blackberry Bold 9900 packs an impressive 1.2GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM, making switching between apps, browsing the web and watching streaming video a breeze. The iPhone 4 is equally powerful, running Apple’s own A4 chipset. It’s slightly lacking in the memory department, housing only 512MB of RAM.

• Software
The iPhone runs of Apple’s incredible iOS platform. It is widely considered to be the smoothest, most easy to use and most stylish operating system there is. And with the imminent arrival of the iOS 5 upgrade, it will be made even better.

The Bold 9900 runs on the much improved version 7.0 of RIM’s Blackberry OS. It has support for HTML 5 and Flash, unlike the iPhone. This latest version of the OS features an attractive liquid graphics interface and a host of new features.

• Camera
Although there are smartphone cameras that pack more megapixels, the iPhone 4’s 5-megapixel camera is capable of producing some of the most beautiful images. It also features an LED flash, 720p video capture and a secondary camera for FaceTime video calling.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 also has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video camera, but it doesn’t have a secondary camera, making video calling out of the question.

Top 5 AT&T Smartphones

Posted by admin under iPhone News on Wednesday Jul 27, 2011

ATT customers generally had only one real choice of smartphone the past few years. If you didn’t need a BlackBerry for work, all that was left was the iPhone. It took some time for solid Android devices to hit the carrier – decent Android handsets were finding their way to T-Mobile or Verizon first – so options were limited for ATT customers.

These days, there are a number of high-end devices to choose from and it’s not just the iPhone Show at ATT anymore. There are a few good Android devices to choose from, and even Windows Phone 7 hit the scene with a handful of respectable devices, too. So if you’re in the market for a new smartphone for ATT, take a look at my top 5 picks below.

1. Apple iPhone 4

apple iphone 4 91 e1311701525983 Top 5 ATT SmartphonesIt’s the phone that has allowed ATT to set record sales numbers and activations, and it’s still the phone of choice for the carrier. The iPhone 4 is a great piece of hardware with a very sexy design. It also has the best battery life when it comes to high-end smartphones today, which is a big deal for me and most people I know in the market for a smartphone. Additionally, you’ll have access to the iTunes App Store, where there are hundreds of thousands of quality applications for just about anything you can imagine.

It has a 3.5-inch retina display (960 x 640), Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, a quality 5MP camera and a front-facing camera for self-portraits and video calls. While the design is very nice, with a glass face and glass backing, you might want to consider a case or sleeve for the iPhone 4 – especially if you’re the type who drops cell phones pretty often.

The iPhone 4 is still popular today even though an iPhone 5 is just on the horizon. You can pick one up for $199 or
