Can Blackberry’s Touchscreen Handset take on the iPhone?

Posted by admin under iPhones on Tuesday Aug 9, 2011

The iPhone 4 is widely considered to be one of the best touchscreen smartphones currently available, and has achieved millions of sales to prove it. However, not every smartphone user is an iPhone convert.
Blackberry has a number of devoted users who prefer the convenience of their devices’ QWERTY keyboard, easy to use and reliable push email and Blackberry Messenger.

With their latest handset, the Bold 9900, by teaming their signature QWERTY keyboard with a responsive touchscreen, Blackberry hopes to reignite their slightly flagging position in the smartphone market by targeting the iPhone’s legion of fans.

• Power
The Blackberry Bold 9900 packs an impressive 1.2GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM, making switching between apps, browsing the web and watching streaming video a breeze. The iPhone 4 is equally powerful, running Apple’s own A4 chipset. It’s slightly lacking in the memory department, housing only 512MB of RAM.

• Software
The iPhone runs of Apple’s incredible iOS platform. It is widely considered to be the smoothest, most easy to use and most stylish operating system there is. And with the imminent arrival of the iOS 5 upgrade, it will be made even better.

The Bold 9900 runs on the much improved version 7.0 of RIM’s Blackberry OS. It has support for HTML 5 and Flash, unlike the iPhone. This latest version of the OS features an attractive liquid graphics interface and a host of new features.

• Camera
Although there are smartphone cameras that pack more megapixels, the iPhone 4’s 5-megapixel camera is capable of producing some of the most beautiful images. It also features an LED flash, 720p video capture and a secondary camera for FaceTime video calling.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 also has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video camera, but it doesn’t have a secondary camera, making video calling out of the question.

Samsung QWERTY slider leaked for Verizon

Posted by admin under iPhone News on Tuesday Jul 19, 2011

A Samsung QWERTY slider with Verizon Wireless branding was recently leaked by Android Central. The phone’s slide-out QWERTY keyboard and overall design make it look stunningly similar to the Epic 4G on Sprint, but it’s supposed to offer beefier hardware. Rumor has it the device will run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network and is powered by Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). It’s equipped with a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, possibly a Super AMOLED Plus display, an 1,800mAh battery, a 5-megapixel camera as well as a forward-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chats. If it does indeed pack a single-core processor, you can be rest assured this probably won’t launch as a modified Galaxy S II. Depending on the price and release date it looks like the phone could serve as a good option for those who want an alternative to the Motorola DROID 3. Read on for a two more images.

Top Smartphones for Internet Browsing

Posted by admin under iPhone News on Monday Jun 13, 2011

wildfire-brown-x-large

We’re all obsessed with the mobile internet and the ability to stay connected wherever we go, which is all well and good. But what’s the best device for the job? Well, that’s an often-asked question and not one that’s easily answered, because everyone has different requirements from their handset.

Go large

If you’re a fan of browsing the internet, which most of us are, then the more screen real estate you can pack into a smartphone makes it all the more appealing. A great example of that is the HTC Incredible S, with its four-inch offering, while the HD7 offers up a whopping 4.3-inch Super LCD deal with WVGA resolution.

It’s hard to overlook the HTC Desire HD handset though, which has been incredibly popular with smartphone fans, although this manufacturer turns out bigger and better models all the time. Even the HTC Wildfire Pay as you Go phone makes a worthy model if you’re looking for fun, convenience and features,

Then, of course, there’s the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S, with a 4-inch viewing area and that’s even better thanks to the colour and clarity supplied via Super AMOLED. If you’re a fan of Nokia, complete with its operating system quirkiness, then the new E7 could be worth a look as it too has a 4-inch AMOLED screen plus a funky slide out keyboard for keying in your web addresses.

More power

Of course, with many smartphones being able to do lots of other things alongside taking you on a tour of the internet, its processing power that is another big consideration when you’re looking at a do-it-all phone. With more of us needing beefier specifications to keep us happy then it’s little wonder that the dual-core processor is making a regular appearance on new handsets.

Take a look at the LG Optimus 2X, for example, alongside the Motorola Atrix; two phones that deliver a power-packed performance as well as running the ever-popular Android operating system. While Windows Phone 7 is proving popular, many phone users are quickly adopting the Android OS as their system of choice. That’s largely due to features such as a killer web browser and wonderfully simple email and social networking tools.

All in all then, there are rich pickings for connoisseurs of the smartphone and while some of the higher-end iPhone models may be a little on the expensive side, you can still bag great deals on new handset just as long as you take the time to shop around.

Posted by admin under iPhone Accessories, iPhones on Saturday Nov 28, 2009

Accessing and using the iPhone’s keyboards may have some problems, especially if you have big fingers. There was that iTwinge keyboard that many loved but now the 4iThumbs keyboard promises to be a whole lot better. Rather than the usual opaque black color, the 4iThumbs keyboard is clear. It will also require you to put some adhesives on your iPhone. An installation instruction video is shown below just in case you get one.
