Remember iZettle, the smart card reader we talked about couple of months ago? Well it is now available in Sweden in limited numbers. The first 2,000 folks who downloaded the free iZettle app and registered will get the device while the rest of the country will have to wait a little longer. Then, once proven successful, the company will undoubtedly roll-out its neat accessory across Europe.
Unlike Square which plugs into the iPhone’s headphone jack, iZettle takes advantage of the dock connector. It’s also a bulkier device than Square which is kinda expected considering that it reads the smart card’s chip content.
We’re eager to see whether iZettle has what it takes to compete in the ever growing mobile payments market. Bringing its accessory to the Android smartphone market is the obvious next step forward and we’re sure they’re working on such a product as we speak. We’ll definitely be watching the whole mobile payments ecosystem and get back to you as soon as something new comes up. Stay tuned…
